all settled in...

Well, it's been a little more than a week since I moved up from Miyazaki prefecture. My new apartment is much, much smaller than my previous "house" in the Miyazaki countryside. The exchange isn't too bad because I live within walking distance of everything: convenience stores, department stores, a park, a train station, etc. So, I can't really complain.

I currently work at four elementary schools. I'm little disappointed because I really wanted to work at junior high schools. Working with younger kids requires too much energy... energy that I don't have, but the kids are cute. My first day was this past Friday. Looking forward to visiting the other schools next week!

Spring is finally here! The sakura trees are out in full force in my new city!

T minus five days

It's moving time!

Photobucket

On March 27th, I will be moving up north to a city in Fukuoka prefecture. The city is about a two hours drive from where I currently live.

I'm really looking forward to the move because I'll be living in a more urban area; where everything is in walking distance. Also, Fukuoka City will only be a 40 minute train ride away!!

I will be living in the city, but my schools are in a other town that is about 18 minutes south by train. I don't mind that at all since it'll be a nice break away from city life.

from a six-year-old with love

Last week at my smallest elementary school (a total of 26 students between grades 1 - 6), my youngest student, who happens to be the sole first grader in the school, made me a little - actually, a rather large "medal." She is the cutest child EVER! When she first sees me in the morning, her eyes immediately glistens and smile widens as she runs up to me to give me a hug. So adorable!!

「いつもえいごをおしえてくれてありがとう。」
"Thank you for always teaching me English."

台風が来た!/ A typhoon came!

After living in Japan for two years, I'm used to typhoon season come and go, but damn, what the heck happened yesterday!!! I've never seen sooooo much rain fall in my life. I came to work nearly drenched; it was awful. I felt so sorry for the kids though. Many of them walked to school! Honestly, school should have been closed. Today is a lot better... except for the wind.

This is what the school ground at the JHS I worked at today looked like.
It seriously looks like a pond.
